Viewpoints is a publication of the students of Riverside City College in Riverside, CA. We have been serving the students of RCC since 1922. Viewpoints is published every other week, excluding holidays, during the academic year. Viewpoints has a print circulation of 2,500 and reaches 9,000 readers in print and online.
Journalism Awards at Riverside City College
Viewpoints students have won the following awards:
-Second place in 2009 in the Associated Collegiate Press Multimedia Story of the Year national contest in competition with university students. First place ACP national Sports Story of the Year in 2000. Third place ACP national Opinions Story of the Year in 2003.
-Nine Society of Professional Journalists awards in 2008, eight SPJ awards in 2007, and 11 SPJ awards in 2006.
-The Associated Collegiate Press Pacemaker Award, given to the top 25 newspapers in the nation, in 2005 and 2004.
-The Los Angeles Times College Newspaper Overall Excellence third place award in 2005, second place award in 2004 and an honorable mention in 2003.
-College Newspaper of the Year, second place in the nation in 2004, by the Associated Collegiate Press.
-Best newspaper overall in Southern California and Arizona for the fall 2003 semester by the Journalism Association of Community Colleges.
-Five annual All-American awards from Associated Collegiate Press.
-Nineteen Journalism Association of Community Colleges General Excellence awards.
-Viewpoints Online won a Journalism Association of Community Colleges General Excellence award.
-More than 300 Journalism Association of Community Colleges individual awards.
-The Associated Collegiate Press Pacemaker Finalist Award, given to the top 10 community college newspapers in the nation, in 2005, 2004 and 1998.
-The JACC Pacesetter Award, given to the top four community college newspapers in California.
-College Photographer of the Year, second and third place in the nation.
